John Urschel is a guard for the Baltimore Ravens, and has greatly excelled at his position. He went from a fifth-round draft pick to the starting lineup of the team.
Urschel is paid millions of dollars to protect the Ravens’ quarterback, Joe Flacco. He is also known for having one of the most brilliant minds in the game of football.
Despite being a 300+ pound monster of a man, Urschel is also a bit of a math whiz.
Actually, he is one of the leading mathematical minds of our time. He has been published in many scholarly journals devoted to the subject.
His most recent work, “A Cascadic Multigrid Algorithm for Computing the Fiedler Vector of Graph Laplacians,” was published in the Journal of Computational Mathematics.

There is significantly more to NFL players than one might think. For instance, Urschel plans on becoming a math scholar once his NFL career is over. Until then, he plans on smashing his way through defenders and protecting his quarterback.
