Texas is one of the most interesting states in the U.S., as well as one of the largest, by both population and land mass. Here, you’ll find an abundance of cool new things to experience and interesting places to explore. If you’ve never been to Texas but find yourself eager to check out something fun and new, pack your bags and head out to discover some of these awesome things you can only find in Texas.
SXSW
If you’re planning a trip for early Spring, it’s paramount you get tickets to South by Southwest (SXSW), a massive event that focuses on tech, film, music, education, and culture. As far as music festivals go, it’s the largest of its kind in the entire world, hosting over 2,000 performers each year. If you’re more of a film buff, you can also attend the film conference portion of the 10-day-long festival. SXSW brings in some of the biggest names in film and also shines light on independent or up-and-coming talent in the industry. If movies and music are your bread and butter, this is a real bucket list event.
Cuisine
There’s certain Texas snacks and meals that are best enjoyed fresh from an authentic establishment. No, we’re not talking about Whataburger, but that’s an important piece of Texas culture as well. Some of the delicious eats you need to try on your next visit to Texas are Kolaches, which are Czech pastries often filled with cheese or fruit, and authentic Texan sweet tea. Of course, if you’re visiting any restaurant, you’re sure to be greeted with some good old fashioned southern hospitality. If you’re looking to try these treats and more, head to the Texas State Fair in the fall to enjoy a little bit of everything.
Buc-ees
It may seem a little silly to most, but Buc-ees gas station and convenience store is one of the biggest local icons. Bucc-ees is more than where locals find gas at all hours of the night next to their apartments in Arlington, TX, it’s a piece of local culture. Since all things are bigger in Texas, it would only be right to visit the biggest convenience store in the world during your visit — the Buc-ees in New Braunfels. So, what makes this chain so special to locals? Well, we’re not entirely sure, but it may have something to do with the precious beaver mascot.
Weird that the top photo is of saguaro cacti, which aren’t found anywhere in Texas.
