Out of all the films coming out in 2019 (and there’s a lot), these were voted the most exciting. Sadly, some don’t even even have trailers yet. But, a poster is all I need to get overly-excited.
25: Shazam!
Based on the DC comics character of the same name, Shazam! is about a teenager who can transform into a superhero simply by saying the word “Shazam”. According to the trailer, it should also be one of the funnier superhero movies of 2019.
24: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
The previous How to Train Your Dragon films were so successful that it’s not just kids who are excited about The Hidden World trailer.
23: The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
Even if you’re an “adult”, you surely loved the first Lego Movie, and should definitely be excited for the sequel, based off the trailer.
22: Top Gun: Maverick
It took 33 years, but we’re finally getting a Top Gun sequel. There isn’t a trailer, or even much of a plot yet, but the sequel will definitely see rivals Maverick (Tom Cruise) and Iceman (Val Kilmer) reunite.
21: The New Mutants
This Marvel horror movie focuses on a group of young mutants held in a secret facility that must fight to save themselves. If you’re a horror fan like me, you’ll love the unusually dark superhero trailer.
20:MIB
MIB is an untitled spin-off of the original Men in Black film series that’ll be starring Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Liam Neeson, and Rebecca Ferguson.
19: Godzilla: King of the Monsters
It was decided opening weekend of Godzilla (2014) that they would be making a sequel. It took a while, but the monstrous trailer was finally released at this year’s Comic-Con.
18: Dumbo
Doesn’t the child inside of you just light up when you hear this? And looking at the trailer, Tim Burton has certainly put his own unique twist on the classic children’s tale.
17: Dark Phoenix
Originally, this X-Men movie was set to be released in November, but needed to reshoot much of the third act. However, its star Sophie Turner couldn’t attend said reshoots due to Game of Thrones filming, pushing back the release to February 2019.
16: Hellboy
There’s no trailer yet, but that hasn’t stopped Hellboy fans from getting excited about the reboot in which Hellboy squares off against a medieval sorceress who seeks to destroy mankind.
15: The Addams Family
Everyone’s favorite ghoulish family is being remade into an animated film for the big screen; let’s just hope they find that happy medium where kids and adults can both enjoy it.
14: 3 From Hell
This upcoming horror film will be the follow-up to Rob Zombie’s 2003 film House of 1000 Corpses and his 2005 sequel The Devil’s Rejects
13: Spider-Man: Far From Home
The newest Spider-Man movie is set to be released July 2019 – three months after Avengers: Infinity War- Part 2. Therefore, by the time it comes out, the whole “Holy shit everybody’s dead!” thing will have been sorted out. Hopefully.
12: Zombieland 2
Luckily for us, all members of the core cast are coming back 10 years later for this zombie-fighting sequel.
11: The Lion King
When asked about their favorite kids movie, it’s amazing how many people answer The Lion King. I’m not sure if Disney can outdo the childhood classic we all love. But they sure picked a stellar cast (including Donald Glover as Simba and Beyoncé as Nala) for this live-action epic musical.
10: Star Wars: Episode IX
Episode IX won’t be the last Star Wars movie, but it will be the final film within the Star Wars sequel trilogy, following Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And sadly, with a December 2019 release date, we shouldn’t expect a trailer, or even a measly poster for quite a while.
9: Wonder Woman 1984
The first Wonder Woman actually won Best Trailer at the 2017 Golden Trailer Awards, so we’re especially excited for the sequel’s. Oh, and the film itself, of course.
8: Captain Marvel
We may not have a trailer yet, but we know that in the film, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.
7: John Wick 3: Parabellum
John Wick: Chapter 2 really left us with a massive cliffhanger. I absolutely hate when they do that, but it also means I will absolutely see John Wick 3. Damn them.
6: Joker
The plot of the new Joker movie is still under wraps, but we do know it’s an origin film, and that it’s starring the incredibly talented Joaquin Phoenix.
5: Toy Story 4
Somehow, Toy Story 3 managed to be better than the original. Considering I left the theater of the third film having cried my eyes out to the point you’d think I had lost a close family member, my expectations for the fourth are quite high.
4: Glass
It took 19 years, but M. Night Shyamalan’s dark superhero universe will finally be complete with the third film in the trilogy, following 2000’s Unbreakable and 2016’s Split. The trailer shows Mr. Glass, Kevin, and David Dunn are all in the same mental hospital for their “superhero delusion”.
3: IT: Chapter Two
Taking place 27 years after the first film, Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård) returns to torment the grown-up members of the Losers’ Club. If you’re like me, you have a love-hate relationship with IT, and are somewhat thankful for the year we’ve had without this nightmare fuel.
2: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
The talk around Quentin Tarantino’s newest film has been nonstop, especially after the announcement of his star-studded cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, and more. The film focuses on an old Western actor and his longtime stunt double navigating their way through Hollywood during the Manson Family Murders in 1969 Los Angeles.
1: Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2
It’s no surprise that this is the most anticipated film of 2019. We’re all dying to know what happened after last year’s Infinity War ending. Like most fans, I’ll probably be overanalyzing every poster, tweet, etc. that’s released from now until April 2019.
