Disney vacations come with unexpected surprises: from the high price of “blue milk” to the peculiar phenomenon of Disney Adults. Now, add to that list the bizarre chance of inhaling someone’s dispersed ashes at the parks.
A recent Reddit post revealed a shocking scene at Disneyland’s Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ride, showing what seemed to be human ashes scattered across the attraction, a photo that was shared then swiftly removed.

“Ashes spread on Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland last night, according to Reddit,” tweeted @dizchris, urging, “Don’t do this, folks.” This eerie occurrence sparked humor and disbelief on Twitter, with one user quipping about their ashes being cleaned up by overworked staff.
It turns out, Disney’s happiest places often become final resting spots for die-hard fans, a situation so common that staff expect to clean up ashes monthly, as reported by the Wall Street Journal in 2018.
“The Haunted Mansion is practically a columbarium,” joked a custodian, highlighting the dark trend of Disney adults sharing ash-scattering tips online.
Not only is this frowned upon by Disney’s cleanup crews, dubbed “Code Grandma” for such incidents, but it’s also illegal and against park policy, covering rides from Pirates of the Caribbean to It’s a Small World.
A spokesperson emphasized, “This behavior is not only prohibited but unlawful. Offenders will be removed from the park.” So, heed the cautionary tales: The invitation to become the Haunted Mansion’s 1000th ghost isn’t for the living.
