AT&T experienced a widespread network outage across the United States on Thursday morning, causing disruptions for customers trying to make calls, send texts, or access the internet. Alongside AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile users also faced some network issues, although they appeared to be less extensive.
According to DownDetector, over 44,000 AT&T customers reported outages, though this figure may not capture the full extent of the problem as it relies on self-reported data. While outage reports momentarily decreased around 5 am ET, they surged again by 7 am ET and continue to rise.
Despite customer complaints online, AT&T has not officially acknowledged the network outage nor responded to requests for comment. This incident follows sporadic outages over the past few days, including a temporary 911 service interruption in certain southeastern areas of the United States.
San Francisco’s Department of Emergency Management confirmed that their 911 center remained operational but advised AT&T customers to use a landline or find someone with an alternative service provider to call 911.
Both Verizon and T-Mobile also recorded around 1,000 outages on Thursday morning, as per DownDetector, though they have yet to provide official comments on the matter.
The cause of the service disruption and the number of affected individuals remain unclear. Downdetector, a platform tracking service statuses globally, reports real-time information on thousands of services worldwide.
