Way way back in the 90’s before Sony released the Playstation they were in talks with Nintendo to make a CD-ROM add-on for the Super Nintendo. This collaboration actually started before then, they started working together in 1988 two years before the Super Nintendo was released.
Everything was going well for the two companies until they could not agree upon a revenue split on the project. Negotiations fell apart and Sony’s CEO was furious and decided that they were going to release a console system of their own without Nintendo.
Fast forward years later and a Redditor shared these photos of a Sony/Nintendo prototype that his father found in a box of junk from an old job that he was supposed to throw out. Unfortunately, the original thread on Reddit is now private due to today’s Reddit Blackout, so any more information will have to wait. But it’s definitely an incredible find, especially since Nintendo denied its existence for years.
