Jwall from PrintThatThing just made his orange tabby cat Bobo a 3D armor. The creator offers his design for free, you just need to print it out. And even if you are not very familiar with 3D printing, Jwall explains everything on his page.
“We started off first just drawing out how we wanted the overall look and vibe of the armor to be,” said Jwall, “and I suggested that it should have spikes, because I always pet [Bobo] in a reverse pattern so his hair’s all crazy and he looks like a spiky tiger.” The armor is also functional – one of the plates has a small hole for a leash and there’s an ID tag attached to the breastplate. So, no matter what battle your kitty gets into, now you can be sure the feline will come back home safe and sound.
JWall wasn’t completely done with this design either, as any armor cannot be done without a helmet. However, constructing one for a cat can be quite a challenge and that’s why he asked for ideas from other people on his Thingiverse page. Many people submitted their sketches and designs and in the end, JWall chose Craig Petersen’s design of the helmet.
Craig sent in 3 designs titled “The Oni”, “Eye of the Scorpion” and “Battle Kitteh of the Universe” of which JWall chose the last option. After the concept for the helmet was chosen, it took JWall a couple of weeks to transfer Craig’s work to a 3D program. And then Bobo modeled it proudly after the helmet was finally printed.
