The Superbowl, one of the most high profile and popular sporting events in the world. Each year, two teams battle it out to be crowned champions with the game regularly putting on a spectacle. On average, each year the Superbowl is watched by around 113 million people, with the record being in 2017 where Eagles vs the Patriots, had a total of 118 million people tune in to watch. This year’s event is being tipped to be the biggest yet, with the NFL odds suggesting the 49ers will pick up their sixth Super Bowl win but there’s plenty of football to be played yet.

1969 New York Jets vs Baltimore Colts
This game was a major David vs Goliath story, with everyone having Baltimore Colts set in stone to come out with a win, however this wasn’t the case, with New York Jets coming out victorious 16 to 7 which sent shockwaves through the football community.

San Francisco 49ers vs Cincinnati Bengals
Even before the game the Bengals were at a disadvantage with Stanley Wilson banned for the game for using an illegal substance the day before the game. This ended up just about swinging the game in San Francisco’s favour as they ended up winning 20 to 16. If Stanley had been playing that day, maybe the Bengals would’ve won this one.

A season the Rams could only dream of, winning the Superbowl by beating Tennessee 24 to 16. If you’d have told any Rams fan at the start of the season they’d be in the Superbowl final, they certainly wouldn’t have taken you seriously. What a fairytale story with the team led by Kurt Warner, taking his team to glory.

In 2018, The Eagles won their first Superbowl since 1960 was certainly a memorable day for the fans, with Trey Burton dragging his team to the Superbowl title after beating the New England Patriots 41 to 33 following their Philly special trick play.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Arizona Cardinals
Despite a last minute resurgence from Arizona Cardinals, which gave the Steelers a slight scare, they managed to hold on and win the 2009 Superbowl. With just minutes remaining Santonio Holmes sealed the game for the Steelers winning 27 to 23. This game will be remembered for the late drama which made it one of the greats.

Another game where one team got too comfortable and nearly succumbed to a late comeback. The Steelers were 18 points ahead going into the final quarter, only for the Cowboys to have a late resurgence to nearly swing the game. However, the Steelers held on and won the game 35 to 31.

Going into this game, the Bills were the clear favourites to take home the trophy, only to be undone by a mistake by Scott Norwood in the dying moments by missing a field goal. The underdogs New York Giants went on to get a memorable victory and were crowned champions of 1991, winning 20 to 19.

The Patriots, who had gone all season unbeaten and were tipped to ease through the Superbowl and take home the win, however this wasn’t the case. The 4th quarter was back and forth between the two, only for the Giants to snatch victory at the last second thanks to a catch from David Tyree.

The Falcons leading 28-3, surely that’s it right? There was a feeling in the air the Falcons would collapse and fall apart. That’s exactly what happened, the legendary Tom Brady dragged the Patriots back to a famous win following the game going into overtime for the first time ever. With Brady winning his fifth Superbowl.

New England Patriots vs Seattle Seahawks
Could it have been any other Superbowl? This game had it all. 26 seconds left, the Seahawks needing one more touchdown from one yard to win. Everyone thought Marshawn Lynch would get it over the line for the Seahawks. Instead, the pass was intercepted and the Patriots went on to win the 2015 Superbowl 28 to 24. A true classic.
