  1. Pick ONE place to keep anything. Like, always put your car keys in the second drawer on the left in the kitchen. I recall many times having to search the entire house for my ex-wife’s car keys or shoes, because when she came home, she would just throw them anywhere, a different place every time. Sometimes her keys were on the dining table, sometimes on the kitchen counter, sometimes sitting on the couch, sometimes in her coat pocket, etc etc. Get into the habit that when you’re done with something, you ALWAYS put it in that one place. Of course it can be hard to remember the place you picked for a hundred different things, so keep related things together. Like I have a drawer where I keep pens and pencils and paper clips and staples etc, so I don’t have to remember that pens are here and pencils are there. If it’s “writing and paper related”, its in this drawer.

  2. If you have a dishwasher, when the dishwasher finishes, put the dishes away before your next meal. Then after every meal, put the dishes directly in the dishwasher. I used to take dishes from the dining table to the kitchen counter, then move them from the kitchen counter to the sink, then I needed the sink for something so I took them back out, etc etc before finally putting them in the dishwasher. Instead of handling each dish once I handled it 5 or 10 times.
