I’m a horror enthusiast, and I’ll pretty much sit through anything, but I’ve got to say that there was a golden period in the 70’s and 80’s that just ruled.
And somehow, Rob Zombie manages to capture that schlocky essence in his film debut House of 1000 Corpses and its sequel.
Man, this film is some gory fun.
Though, I don’t think this movie and it’s predecessor would have been as remarkable, had it not been for Sid Haig’s demented clown.
Sadly, Haig passed away on Sept 21st, at the epic age of 80, after a fall in his home. He was able to film a brief cameo in the follow up to this film, 3 From Hell, but his ailing health was just too much.
While he’s best known for this role, he actually did a tour of all the great shows and movies of yesteryear starting with George Lucas’s debut film THX 1138. From there he appeared in Diamonds Are Forever, The Untouchables TV Show, Batman, Gunsmoke, Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, Get Smart, Charlies Angels, Jason of Star Command, Fantasy Island, The Dukes of Hazard, The A-Team & MacGuyver.
He was also up for the role fo Marcellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction, but he was on a break from acting at the time and turned it down. Rob Zombie’s casting of Haig in House of 1000 Corpses revitalized his career and got him more than a few nominations for awards.
