The Dark Knight
Batman is extracted from Hong Kong using the actual methods of the CIA and a device called a Sky Hook, as mentioned by Morgan Freeman’s character (although the program actually started in the 50s, instead of the 60s as
the movie says).
The Mummy
The wraps used in Imhotep’s mummification were accurate and there were ancient culutures that mummified the living, although Egyptians weren’t known for it.
The Rock
It’s sort of a loose tie-in but Sean Connery’s John Mason is said to have stolen secret files from J. Edgar Hoover. In reality, Hoover did keep numerous files on all sorts of individuals, which were exposed after a break-in led to a congressional hearing of Hoover’s actions.
Gladiator
Like Proximo (although he wasn’t real), gladiators were gifted a wooden sword called a “rudis” which symbolized their freedom from the gladiator life, if they so chose.
Jaws
The crew of the USS Indianapolis really did get eaten by sharks after delivering an atomic bomb.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Dr. Jones returns, and this time it was with a human-sacrificing called called the “Thuggees”, which was a real Indian criminal fraternity from the 19th century.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
More than a dozen crystal skulls have been found and displayed in museums around the world, but they can all be
traced back to an archaeologist/fraudster named Eugene Boban who created them in the late 1800s.
Pirates of the Caribbean
The real pirates of the world did drink copious amounts of rum. Rum was better for long voyages than other beverages that needed to be kept cold, like beer. Delicious beer.
Jurassic Park
Dinosaurs were more closely related to birds than reptiles and that’s a fun thought to keep in mind. We’re still in the age of the dinosaurs.
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Richard Nixon’s tapes did feature mysteriously missing minutes. Probably not about mutants, but we really can’t be sure, can we?
